Wahl is a great brand. They have a great variety of quality mustache and beard trimmers but we all know that not all products are created equal. So how does the Wahl 9918-6171 Groomsman Beard and Mustache Trimmer measure up? Is it worth buying?

Here I’m going to review the Wahl 9918-6171, and give my honest opinion of what I think about it. Hopefully this will help you come to a more informed decision as to whether it will be a good trimmer for you or not, and whether it’s something you should invest in.

First of all, this trimmer has a pretty affordable price (Discounted price of $17 at Amazon.com). Some of the prices for these types of products can get absolutely ridiculous for often what is the same build quality as cheaper brands. This isn’t “cheap” in terms of feel and quality, but it is affordable.

Most importantly, the Wahl 9918-6171 does actually do what it was designed to do: trim my mustache and beard. What a relief! Anyway, it does actually cut my facial hair as opposed to pulling at it. This is obviously testament to the high-carbon precision-ground steel blades, and they really are noticeable. Trimming is a relatively painless experience and its actually fun!

I also like how easy it is to clean this trimmer after use. Even if a trimmer gives me the best trim in the world, it kind of loses the satisfaction when it’s an absolute nightmare to get clean. You won’t have that problem with the Wahl 9918-6171. The hair doesn’t seem to get caught up in the device too much in the first place, and the brushes provided are enough to clean it up.

It also has a good battery life on it. You can use it either while it’s plugged into the wall, or let it charge and then use it. This is great. It’s good to be able to use it wireless but there’s nothing more annoying that being caught out mid-cut with a dead battery. This trimmer charges up really fast and what I love about this is that its really quiet while in use.

On the downside, I do feel the attachments need to be improved slightly. They do a good job once they’re on, it’s just it can be a bit awkward to get them on and off in the first place and they just feel like they need to be a bit stronger. As for getting them on, there’s just a knack to it, but I’d rather not have to figure it out. It’s a small problem in respect to the overall product though.

As you can see, overall I’m very impressed by the Wahl 9918-6171 and would definitely recommend it. It definitely has it’s areas that could be improved but for the price you really can’t argue. It does what it was designed to do and it does it well. Hey, you even get a free travel pouch to store it in! Overall, a very good quality product and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.
